Jamahal Hill comes up big in Vegas

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, August 6, 2022, for UFC Vegas 59, going down live from the UFC Apex in Enterprise, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a pair of ranked light-heavyweight contenders in former title challenger Thiago Santos (no. 6) and Jamahal Hill (no. 10) and is co-headlined by another pair of ranked contenders, this bout coming in the welterweight division between Vicente Luque (no. 6) and Geoff Neal (no. 13).

This main event is between two top 10 fighters in the light heavyweight division. Hill (10-1-0, 1NC) battles a fighter 7 years elder and a significantly more experienced fighter, Thiago Santos (22-10-0).

Hill enters the fight with a three-inch reach advantage. Can his striking and power be enough to get him the victory against his toughest opponent thus far? Santos is a strong striker as well and has fought 21 times more than Hill.

Round 1: 

Fighters feeling each other out. Bisping points out the wide base by Hill. Santos lands a heavy low kick to the thigh of Hill. Hill using his jab faint, Walks down Santos. Santos lands another leg kick and Hill lands a hook. Santos looking for a takedown against the cage. Hill fights it off and now they are in a clinch with Hill’s back against the cage. Santos grabs a leg, but his hips and chest are too far away for a successful takedown. Hill lands a knee to the groin of Santos. Santos got some time and now they are back at it. Santos throwing punches and kicks, but Hill’s speed is in full display as he avoids much of it and lands a couple of counter strikes. Santos lands a strong counterstrike at the end of the round. Horn sounds.

Round 2:

Hill throws a leg kick. And another kick. Then throws a body kick and continues to throw more kicks. Santos answers with a high kick of his own that is blocked by Hill. Big takedown for Santos but Hill bounced right back up to his feet. Hill’s mouthpiece falls out. Hill hurts Santos and looks for the kill. Santos looks for a takedown. Herb Dean stops them and gives it back to Hill. They Continue. Both fighters go back and forth landing kicks and head strikes. Hill pushing forward. Santos lands a right hand. Then a leg kick. Santos looks a little tired. Hill lands a strike and kick. Santos a little wobbled and the horn ends sending both fighters back to their corners.

Round 3: 

Hill opens with inside leg kicks. Santos shoots a takedown. Hill gets right back up off the ground. Santos pressed for a takedown against the cage. Santos gets another takedown with a single leg. Hill falls to his back and then gets right to his feet. Santos fighting for another takedown against the cage. Hill is sprawling and doing a great job keeping Santos’s head down. Santos gets him down again. Santos’s hands are gripped around Hill’s body while he’s on his knees. Hill gets back to his feet. and Santos finally gets him back down and now has Hill’s back against the cage throwing punches. Now they are in the clinch against the cage again. They separate and Hill throws a couple of strikes and Santos lands a couple of his own. Santos is now against the cage looking for a takedown. Hill lands a knee to the body of Santos and Santos gets another takedown and climbs on top in the final seconds of the third round and the horn sounds to end the round. Now into the 4th round.

Round 4:

Hill finding a second wind and is on the attack. Santos answers with a big shoot. Hill lands a massive left. Santos throws some leg kicks. Hill lands another monster shot. Santos wobbled and falls. Hill is on top beating on a Santos as he’s scrambling and trying to cover. Hill landed massive elbows and Herb Dean saw enough! The fight is over from Hill’s ground and pound.

Hill def. Santos via TKO in Round 4. Jamahal Hill proved that experience isn’t an issue for him. This talented fighter has a bright future as he now improved to 11-1 in his career.
