Jamey-Lyn Horth discusses her first career UFC win
Jamey-Lyn Horth had been working hard to make the roster and finally at UFC Vegas 72, she was able to make her first walk to the octagon and she made the best of the opportunity.
When Horth first learned from her management team that the UFC was booking her for a fight, she was overcome with emotion, but throughout the process leading up to her first fight, she was calm as she always felt like she belonged with the biggest MMA promotion in the world.
Fight week went as smooth as possible and Horth enjoyed her first full UFC fight week, especially the day that she received her UFC duffle bag filled with her fight gear.
There was a little small hiccup on fight week, but it wasn’t on Horth’s end, as her opponent, Hailey Cowan, missed weight.
Horth didn’t look too far into her opponent missing weight, but instead she kept focused on the task at hand which was getting a win on fight night.
The two ladies kicked off the UFC Vegas 72 show and Horth’s emotions were racing, but she quickly settled in once she got in the cage and opened up UFC Vegas 72 with a nice performance.
In the first round, Horth’s soccer background may have come in handy as she landed several big kicks too the body and a few to the head and she took the opening round of the fight.
The rest of the fight was close with Cowan going to the clinch and working the grappling angle of the fight game, while Horth continued to land big kicks.
Both ladies raised there hands afterwards, but it was Horth’s hand who got raised by the referee as she got the unanimous decision win by taking two of the three rounds on the judges scorecards.
Following the win, Horth spoke with MyMMANews to discuss her first career UFC win, her first fight week, celebrating at a bar on the Las Vegas strip afterwards and her background of playing both soccer and football in Canada.
