Joanna Jedrzejczyk

Jedrzejczyk returns to strawweight against Waterson at UFC on ESPN+ 19

Michelle Waterson welcomes former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk back to the strawweight division in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 19, Oct. 12.

The two verbally agreed to the bout according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. The fight will headline the card. The UFC has not announced a venue yet.

Jedrzejczyk returns after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Valentina Shevchenko for the inaugural flyweight belt at UFC 31, Dec. 8, 2018. Her loss marked a short stint inside the 125-pound division.

Jedrzejcyk is in the toughest stretch of her career with three losses in her last four bouts. Her lone victory is a unanimous decision win over Tecia Torres at UFC on FOX 30 in July 2018.

Waterson is in a different stage of her career following three-straight victories. Most recently, “The Karate Hottie” earned a unanimous decision win against Karolina Kowalklewicx at UFC on ESPN 2, March 30. Her streak also includes wins against Felice Herrig and Cortney Casey by decision.

She is making an argument for a long awaited title shot after four years of fighting inside the octagon.

The bout takes place six weeks following a title bout between current champion Jessica Andrade and contender, Weili Zhang in Shenzhen, China on Aug. 31.
