Jess Martinez – “It’s about what I’m doing once the bell rings”
For the fourth time in his six-fight career, Jess Martinez will be in the main event at Buffalo Thunder, in front of his hometown fans.
The opposition for Southwest MMA Series XXVII, will be unbeaten Texan Josh Altum, who has a pair of wins by submission just like Martinez.
Altum is coming off a submission win over BJ Young by triangle choke at CFFC 71, in what was one long submission filled scramble.
Martinez said about the matchup, “I never expect an easy night. I look forward to whatever he brings to the game. I feel anyone in the game has to be well-rounded. I’m looking forward to whatever he’s bringing. If we go to the ground, I’m ready for submissions. I roll Jiu Jitsu every day, so that would be an honor for me. I don’t really care where the fight goes. I’m just excited he’s down to make the trip down here.”
How much have you familiarized yourself with Josh Altum?
“With all my opponents, I get their name on the contract and look the name up, see a couple fights. See what I have to deal with and from then on, I just kind of train my camp. I see what they have to offer, and I have that in my head, but at the end of the day; it’s about what I’m doing once the bell rings. Yeah, I’m studying him, but I feel like he’s studying me too. I feel there a little bit more video out on me by now. I’m just anxious to meet him more than anything.”
