Jesse Burke ready for first title defense at Maverick MMA 22

Jesse Burke has been doing some level of martial arts for years now, so it’s no surprise that he’s in the position he’s in.

When Burke was a teenager, he began boxing and kickboxing. Then one day he decided he wanted to make the transition into MMA.

While Burke is still learning parts of his ground game, his success inside of the cage has been tremendous up to this point.

In fact, in Burke’s last outing, Burke picked up a unanimous decision win over Brett Floyd at Maverick MMA 21 to claim Maverick MMA’s amateur bantamweight title.

Burke didn’t think too much of the win at the time, but after getting home with his championship belt, he realized how great of an accomplishment it is to hold the regional title.

Many fighters chose to turn pro after winning an amateur title and Burke knows his pro debut will be coming sooner than later, but in the meantime, he’s still focusing on becoming a complete fighter and he has elected to stay in the amateur ranks.

Now Burke is ready for his next amateur challenge in which he will make his first title defense on Saturday at Maverick MMA 22.

The event will be the promotions first casino show at the Wind Creek Casino in Bethlehem, Pa and Burke is one of three title fights on the card.

The fight card is exciting for the regional scene and it especially exciting for Burke’s home gym of Scranton MMA.

The gym has been growing and evolving every day and Burke and his teammate Hunter May are looking to continue the gyms success by bringing two victories home to Scranton.

Prior to the fight, Burke spoke with MyMMANews about being Maverick’s amateur bantamweight champion, his first title defense, the growth of Scranton MMA and while he is behind on some Star Wars shows, he also discussed his love for the hit franchise.
