Jessica Andrade vs. Lauren Murphy added to UFC 283
An intriguing women’s flyweight bout featuring Jessica Andrade vs. Lauren Murphy has been added to the upcoming UFC 283 pay-per-view card in Brazil.
MMAFighting.com was the first to report that Andrade vs. Murphy is set to take place at the UFC 283 PPV card. UFC 283 takes place on January 21 at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Andrade (23-9) is coming off of back-to-back stoppage wins over Amanda Lemos and Cynthia Calvillo in her last two fights to bounce back from a one-sided loss to UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko. The 31-year-old Brazilian has actually competed in three different weight classes in the UFC (strawweight, flyweight, and bantamweight), and she was a champion at 115lbs. However, despite being the former champ at strawweight, Andrade has been bouncing around weight classes, including this latest move up to the UFC flyweight division. She is currently ranked No. 4 at women’s 125lbs.
Murphy (16-5) is coming off of a one-sided victory over Miesha Tate in her last fight. Overall, the 39-year-old American has won six of her last seven bouts, with her only recent loss coming against the champ Shevchenko. She has proven that she is one of the toughest and most durable fighters in the weight class, and she has all of the tools needed to make a second title run. If she can get past Andrade at UFC 283, Murphy will defend her No. 3 flyweight ranking and move one step closer to a title rematch.
Expect competitive betting odds for this fight. Since Andrade is a former UFC champion who possesses deadly KO power, she will likely be favored to win, but Murphy is tough as nails and has the style to nullify Andrade and pull off the upset if she fights as well as she did against Tate.
