Jessica Ruiz Pulls Out of Ring of Combat 24 Fight Against Jennifer Chieng Due to Torn ACL

Jessica Ruiz out of ROC 24 Fight against Jennifer Chieng with torn ACL

Jessica Ruiz was scheduled to fight Jennifer Chieng Dugwen at Ring of Combat 24, in New York City, New York. The fight was set to take place at strawweight (115-pounds) Friday, February 2, 2018, Live from the Capitale, at 130 Bowery, New York City.

Late Sunday afternoon, Jessica Ruiz suffered an injury during practice. Monday evening Ruiz received the bad news from the MRI informing her that her ACL was torn. No surgery date has been scheduled, but ligament reconstruction is required. The recovery for a torn ACL is anywhere from 9 to 14 months, including physical therapy, depending on the athlete.

“I’m so sad,” Ruiz said to My MMA News. A replacement fighter for Ruiz hasn’t been announced as of now, and it’s most likely the fight for Chieng is off as a whole.

This strawweight bout was a highly anticipated fight between two tough women. Ruiz, a brawler that continues to press forward and Chieng, a former Olympic boxer, was expected to deliver fireworks for fans in attendance.
