Jesus Pinedo gets revenge on Gabriel Alves Braga, claims PFL featherweight championship at PFL 10

PFL MMA returns to us tonight, November 24, 2023, for PFL 10, going down live from The Anthem in Washington D.C.

The first of six championship bouts going down tonight came in the featherweight division between Jesus Pinedo (23-6-1) and Gabriel Alves Braga (12-1).

These two fought earlier this year in April, Braga being awarded the split decision victory after three close rounds were contested. Since then Braga defeated UFC veterans Marlon Moraes (TKO) and Chris Wade (SD) en route to clinching his spot in the finals.

Pinedo on the other hand shocked the world two months later with his first round KO victory over 2022 champion Brendan Loughnane, who was 27-4 as a professional going in, all four of those defeats coming via decision, three of which were split.

Pinedo then knocked out 2022’s finalist Bubba Jenkins in August, going into tonight’s featherweight title bout on a two-fight knockout streak.

Official Result: Jesus Pinedo def. Gabriel Alves Braga via TKO (punches) at :58 of round three

After a competitive first and second round that saw Braga pressing forward, Pinedo was picking him apart with his hooks as well as his leg and body kicks. Braga was getting a few good hits in here and there, but Pinedo remains unfazed each time.

Pinedo then stuns Braga early on in round three with a left hand followed by a flying knee. A barrage of punches later and the fight was stopped, Pinedo becoming Peru’s first ever MMA world champion as a result.

It appears we will see Pinedo challenge Bellator featherweight champion Patricio Freire for his throne in the not too distant future.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
