Jim Brown, early UFC commentator, dead at 87
Jim Brown, Pro Football Hall of Famer, civil rights advocate, and actor died on Thursday at age 87.
According to The Associated Press, Brown died in his Los Angeles home on May 18, with his wife by his side.
He commentated the UFC’s first event in November 1993 alongside Bill Wallace and Kathy Long in Denver, Colorado
Brown commentated the first six UFC pay-per-view events and was recently celebrated by the promotion in a Black History Month feature with UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier as the first African-American commentators in the pre-Zuffa and Zuffa eras.
Brown, who led the league in rushing in eight of his nine seasons with the Cleveland Browns, never missed a game, playing in 118 straight before his sudden retirement in 1965 — after being named Most Valuable Player.
