Jimmy Crute vs Alonzo Menifield II booked for UFC 290

UFC 290 is shaping up to be an exciting night of fights, as the promotion has already added two title fights, along with a no. 1 contender bout to the event.

UFC 290 is to go down on July 8, 2023, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Interim UFC featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez (15-3) will attempt to unify his title with undisputed champion Alexander Volkanovski (25-2) in the main event of the evening, just after the co-main event trilogy between UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno (21-6-2) and no. 2 ranked Alexandre Pantoja (25-5).

No. 2 ranked former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker (24-6) will also be facing no. 6 ranked former EFC & KSW champion Dricus Du Plessis (19-2) in the feature fight of the night.

Then we have an epic light-heavyweight bout between no. 14 ranked Jimmy Crute (12-3-1) and fellow knockout artist Alonzo Menifield (13-3-1), a rematch of their UFC 284 encounter that happened earlier this year in February.

It’s quite surprising their first affair wasn’t awarded Fight of the Night honors, because these two went to war over the course of their three round encounter.

Each man hurt the other on a number of occasions, and they absolutely threw down from bell to bell in complete disregard for the others power.

Going into their first fight, Crute was on a two-fight skid, having most recently lost to former title challenger Anthony Smith and current light-heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill.

Prior to that he’d gone 4-1 inside the octagon with victories over the likes of Paul Craig (kimura), Sam Alvey (TKO), Michal Oleksiejczuk (kimura), and Modestas Bukauskas (KO).

Menifield on the other hand has done quite well for himself as of late, going into his first fight with Crute having gone 4-1 over his latest five appearances. This showed him victorious over the likes of Fabio Cherant (Von Flue choke), Ed Herman (UD), Askar Mozharov (TKO), and Misha Cirkunov (KO).

Who do you see coming out on top in this epic rematch going down at UFC 290?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
