Jiri Prochazka knocks out Volkan Oezdemir in UFC debut
A battle between two top-tier light heavyweights headlined the preliminary portion of the UFC 251 fight card on Fight Island, Saturday night.
Former UFC title contender Volkan Oezdemir (17-4) welcomed former RIZIN Fighting Federation champion Jiri Prochazka (26-3-1) to the UFC in Abu Dhabi on July 11.
“Denisa” Prochazka entered the octagon on a 10-fight win streak with his last loss dating back to 2015 at the hands of “King Mo” Muhammad Lawal. The 27-year-old fighter from the Czech Republic would avenge that loss four years later.
Oezdemir, who failed to defeat then champion Daniel Cormier in January 2018, recently got back to his winning ways with victories over Ilir Latifi and Aleksandar Rakić, after losing three straight including the title bout.
Oezdemir connects with Prochazka early on, shocks him, but then gathers his composure. The two men are coming forward at one another, throwing everything but the kitchen sink. Prochazka is talking trash as he moves forward. This is a slug fest but it appears as if both men are just having fun. With less than 20 seconds in the first frame, Oezdemir takes Prochazka to the mat but can’t do anything with it.
WOW!!!! Early in the second round, literally just moments after the bell, Prochazka knocks Oezdemir out cold with a big right hand. Moments before Oezdemir was wobbled with a head kick, but the Czech Republic native Prochazka continued to stalk his prey and finished the fight.
Welcome to the UFC Jiri Prochazka
