Jiri Prochazka, UFC 300, Aleksandar Rakic

Jiri Prochazka vs Aleksandar Rakic added to UFC 300

UFC 300 is coming together nicely, with the UFC brass having just added three stellar match ups to the lineup.

We’ll see the return of former Rizin and UFC light-heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka (29-4-1) at this event, who’s slated to face no. 5 ranked Aleksandar Rakic (14-3).

UFC 300 is to go down on April 13, 2024, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jiri Prochazka returned to the octagon following a 17-month layoff last month at UFC 295, losing to current light-heavyweight champion and former middleweight champion Alex Pereira, which marked his first defeat in eight years.

Prochazka came into that bout on a 13-fight win streak, all 13 wins coming via finish with 12 knockouts; he was 23-1-1 in his last 25 going into his bout with Pereira, having avenged that only defeat in the process.

That run included KO wins over former light-heavyweight title challengers Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes, with the lone submission coming over perhaps the greatest grappler the UFC’s 205 lb division has ever seen, 2nd-degree BJJ black belt Glover Teixeira in his title winning effort.

Now the Czech native looks to get back on the winning track and get one step closer to regaining the title he was forced to vacate following a brutal shoulder injury.

Aleksandar Rakic on the other hand, like Prochazka going into his Pereira fight, hasn’t fought in some time, as he was also on the sidelines due to a grueling (knee) injury he suffered, which happened in his bout with former champion Jan Blachowicz back in May of 2022.

Rakic was 6-1 inside the octagon at the time, only losing a split decision to Volkan Oezdemir in those seven fights prior to losing to Blachowicz. Now, nearly two years following his last fight, Rakic takes on one of the most dangerous light-heavyweights this sport has ever seen.

Who walks away from this epic light-heavyweight encounter going down at UFC 300 the victor?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
