Joe Rogan stumps for Kamaru Usman vs. Canelo Alvarez boxing match: “I want to see (Usman) get a giant payday”

UFC commentator Joe Rogan stumped for a Kamaru Usman vs. Canelo Alvarez boxing match, saying that “I want to see (Usman) get a giant payday.”

Usman is the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in MMA right now. The UFC welterweight champion is set to take on Leon Edwards in his next title fight this summer, but he has made it clear that he has a keen interest in fighting Alvarez, the world’s No. 1 P4P boxer, in a blockbuster boxing match.

To this point, Usman hasn’t gotten the answer that he wants from UFC president Dana White when it comes to getting his blessing for the Alvarez boxing match. But if you ask Rogan, this would be a great fight and he hopes that Usman is granted the opportunity to fight Alvarez.

Speaking on the “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson” podcast, Rogan stumped for a fight between Alvarez and Usman, with one of the main reasons being that he wants Usman to get a huge payday.

“I would like to see him fight Canelo. I really would. Not because I think that he’s a favorite in a boxing match against one of the greatest boxers of all time, but I want to see him get a giant payday. The same way I would like to see (Francis) Ngannou fight Tyson Fury,” Rogan said (h/t MMAjunkie.com) “That’s a way you can make a sh*t load of money, and I don’t think it damages his potential as a UFC fighter. I think it would be invaluable experience for him as a champion if he did have that fight and then came back over to MMA. I think he’d probably be even better as a striker if he gets through it relatively undamaged, even if he loses.”

Although Usman has made it clear he wants the Alvarez fight, he still needs to get White’s blessing first. If the UFC president gives the OK for the fight to happen, then Rogan may get his wish. However, based on White’s recent comments, it seems like Usman has some convincing to do.

Do you agree with Joe Rogan that Kamaru Usman vs. Canelo Alvarez is the fight to make?
