Jon Jones on Colby Covington: “He really is a rotten person”
Tomorrow night, Colby Covington is in for the biggest fight of his life against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. The UFC 245 title fight follows two other title fights which include featherweight champ Max Holloway defending against Alexander Volkanovski and women’s bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes in a rematch against Germaine de Randamie.
Ahead of tomorrow night’s event, the UFC held a special press conference which would line things up for the upcoming UFC 247 fight card where ligh heavyweight champion Jon Jones would defend against Dominick Reyes.
Jones was asked about the recent news about Covington admitting that his brash act is nothing more than a gimmick that helped him keep his job with the UFC.
“Colby’s a habitual liar at the end of the day. He really is,” Jones said about Covington. “He told the fans that we lived together for two years. We lived together for one semester. I’ve made a lot of mistakes and a lot of people don’t consider me to be a good person, but coming from me, Colby’s a really bad person. He really is. He really, really is.”
Photos recently surfaced on the internet of Jones hanging out with Covington years ago in their college days. But Jones says that those days are over, and mentioned that Covington’s relationships with other friends and fighters have also been tarnished.
“There’s no coincidence that Tyron Woodley got to know him and hates him. [Jorge] Masvidal got to know him and hates him,” Jones said. “I got to live with him and really don’t like him.
“If any of you guys got to know him, he really is a rotten person. I think MMA community is going to start to see it over the years.”
Jon Jones headlines UFC 247 against Reyes on February 8 in Houston, Texas.
