Jon Jones, Jon Jones returns

Jon Jones to Tom Aspinall: “That intern championship means absolutely nothing”

UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones is not shy to clap back at his opponents. Tom Aspinall is that latest opponent, though the two aren’t booked to fight. On X, Jones took credence with Aspinall’s vocal desire to unify his interim heavyweight belt with Jones.

Jones, who just went under elbow surgery in tandem with surgery for his torn pectoral, was quick to remind Tom Aspinall where his place is in the legacy department.

Continuing his tirade, Jon Jones said the following:

My stipe fight was booked well before yours came along, you weren’t even the backup fighter.. Trust me you’re the one who is coming around here with the inflated ego and entitlement. That intern championship means absolutely nothing if you seriously haven’t noticed yet. All your fight did at Madison Square Garden was confused the fans. Good thing the UFC and it’s too long time standing champions are all on the same page. The UFC, Stipe and I have unfinished business, it’s really just that simple.

Jon Jones also doesn’t think he’s long for this sport. He continued today saying that he’s in a legacy building mode and Stipe Miocic is one for his footprint on the sport, not money.

In response to a fan, he continues:

The legacy of Jon Jones: where does Tom Aspinall lie?

Jon Jones may be the GOAT of MMA. Chasing Stipe Miocic is just lagniappe. Tom Aspinall has certainly earned his shot at undisputed gold in the UFC. But the UFC brass and Jon Jones, himself, have other motives.

The nature of the game is a big money fight and the UFC see Jones-Miocic as that. Jones has the most title defenses at 205 and is now the heavyweight champion. Stipe Miocic, though out of action for three years now, has the most defenses at heavyweight.

While Aspinall has earned his title shot, the real question is: Has Jones earned the right to call these types of shots?
