Jose Shorty Torres praises Lou Giordano for talking him into UFC Utica
It’s been a long time coming. Almost every MMA pundit has been saying his name for a couple of years now from Ariel Helwani to James Lynch to Mike Heck to Damon Martin. It is finally time for the UFC to introduce their newest flyweight out of Chicago, Illinois, Jose Shorty Torres.
Torres will make his UFC debut on June 9 in Utica, New York against Jarred “Monkey God” Brooks. But this fight almost didn’t happen. Torres nearly did not like the concept of such a last second call-up, but says it was Lou Giordano, of LouTrition, who convinced him to take the fight.
“I called Lou and Lou was like, ‘Dude I’m 100% confident you can make the weight,'” said Torres.
“I have no problem with you taking this fight. Let’s do it, fly to me we’ll figure everything out. I’m not worried whatsoever. if I was worried I would tell you don’t take the fight.”
Giordano and Torres have been working with each other for quite some time and both are confident in each other’s capabilities.
“I think the biggest shout out I have to give is to Loutrition,” Torres stated.
“If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be in the UFC. I wouldn’t be at the flyweight division and I wouldn’t be taking this last minute fight where my weight was at. I dropped down so fast its been incredible.”
Giordano has taken some flack in the past when fighters did miss weight. Giordano has always accepted full responsibility when that has happened. But, to date, Torres has yet to miss a weight cut under the care and supervision of Loutrition.
“I’m very happy that I have him by my side,” Torres ended.
“If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be so dominant in this sport.”
