Josh Hill talks Bellator 272 fight and BTC commentary work
Josh Hill takes on Jared Scoggins on December 3rd in a high-stakes bantamweight bout.
Bellator 272 emanates from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The event broadcasts on Showtime and this fight could really inform the hierarchy at 135 pounds leading into 2022.
Josh Hill is currently ranked number seven in Bellator’s bantamweight category. While Scoggins enters the fold as a highly buzzed-about and long-awaited promotional debutant.
Hill is a former contestant on the eighteenth season of The Ultimate Fighter and has been a stalwart on a variety of circuits like TKO, Fight Nights Global, as well as WSOF (now PFL) before joining the Bellator MMA fold.
He looks to snap the five-fight win streak accrued by the former CFFC champion Scoggins and return back to the win column.
I spoke with Hill ahead of this contest at the pre-fight virtual media day. The excerpt from our interaction is below.
Josh Hill
Being a color commentator for BTC Fight Promotions and this Scoggins fight disrupting his regular presence in the booth for the recent BTC 13
“I was bummed, man. You know, I’ve been doing their shows for a while now. And that was the first one I missed. Unfortunately, I was in the States and we tried to actually have me do it via Zoom. But it just didn’t work out. But yeah, I was at my place in California watching the whole card. Yeah, man, I’ll be back on the mic come March with them.”
If there any benefits from doing that analyst/color commentary work as it relates to Hill’s refinement as a competitor
“I think a little bit, yeah. Because you’re just talking and dealing with fighters. Especially in the interviews and stuff beforehand. So you just kind of get to see everybody, how they approach things, and what they do. And then also when you’re watching fights, that’s the best education you can get. Other than doing it is watching it right. So yeah, it helps for sure. Doesn’t hurt, that’s for sure.”
