Julianna Peña on UFC 297 women’s bantamweight title bout – “It was a snooze fest. I was not impressed.”
Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Julianna Peña was not a fan of the Saturday night’s UFC 297 co-main event.
Raquel Pennington defeated Mayra Bueno Silva by way of unanimous decision to claim the vacant title that Peña once held.
“It was a snooze fest. I was not impressed. Not impressed with their performance, as my friend Georges St-Pierre likes to say,” Peña said Monday on The MMA Hour.
“Nobody won. The fans lost. Literally, there was no winner.”
Peña has not competed since she lost the title to former champion Amanda Nunes in a rematch in July 2022.
Nunes would later go on to retire from competition, thus vacating the title. While Peña would have been an obvious choice to compete for the vacant strap, the former champ has been rehabbing an injury and could not compete.
