Jun-Yong Park, UFC Vegas 77

Jun-Yong Park secures third-straight rear naked choke finish, stops Albert Duraev at UFC Vegas 77

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us tonight, July 15, 2023, for UFC Vegas 77, going down live from the UFC Apex in Enterprise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a bantamweight clash between no. 3 ranked former champion Holly Holm (15-6) and no. 10 ranked Mayra Bueno Silva (10-2-1).

Co-headlining the event is a welterweight showdown between rising star, no. 14 ranked Jack Della Maddalena (14-2) and debutante Bassil Hafez (8-3).

Our first feature fight of the evening came in the middleweight division between Russian talent Albert Duraev (16-5) and South Korea’s Jun-Yong Park (17-5).

Duraev had gone 2-1 thus far into his tenure with the UFC, the defeat coming to Joaquin Buckley, while Park had gone 6-2 through his previous eight promotional bouts, only losing to Anthony Hernandez and Gregory Rodrigues in that time.

Official Result: Jun-Yong Park def. Albert Duraev via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:45 of round two

Park opens up the bout with some jabs, though Duraev lands a pair of hard left hooks in the first minute, one to the body and one to the head.

Duraev ends up stunning Park about two minutes in, though Park survives and begins to roll with the punches coming his way much better, not allowing anything of significance to land clean through the rest of the round.

Park jumps guard for a guillotine choke at the end of the round and comes very close to finishing the fight, though Duraev survives until the bell sounds.

Park really begins to break Duraev down in the second; he goes to the body with his hands, which works very well for him. Once he gets Duraev worried about the shovel hooks Park lands a nasty right elbow-left hook combination that drops Duraev.

Park proceeds to reign down some ground-and-pound immediately following, before taking Duraev’s back where he eventually secures the rear naked choke finish.

Jun-Yong Park improves his win streak to four-straight tonight at UFC Vegas 77 with his third-straight rear naked choke submission finish.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
