Junior dos Santos explains decision to sign with Eagle FC
Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos explained his decision to sign with Eagle FC, the promotion headed by Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Dos Santos is one of the greatest heavyweights to ever step foot inside the Octagon. However, after losing four straight fights, the UFC decided to release him from his contract with the organization. After becoming a free agent, dos Santos teased a potential move to boxing, something that he had always talked about. However, he ended up signing with Eagle FC. It’s the promotion headed by the former UFC lightweight champion Nurmagomedov, and they gave him an offer that he couldn’t refuse.
Dos Santos returns later this month on May 20 when he faces off against fellow former UFC heavyweight Yorgan de Castro in the main event of Eagle FC 47 in Miami, Florida. Speaking to AG Fight in a recent interview, “Cigano” explained why he decided to sign with Eagle FC.
“(The financial proposal) was very worthwhile too. It’s something that a UFC champion makes, so it’s good. It’s a good size. It was a great proposal, but it was a combination of factors, the date, being here in Miami. I didn’t even think about it much,” dos Santos said.
“I would be very happy being (the face of the event). Everything I’ve found at Eagle has impressed me, the organization, respect for the athletes. Just the fact that we closed the fight already shows that they are worried about making an event well done, respecting the status of each one, acquired through all these years. This is not disposable. I would be quite happy to represent them in the future,”
It will be interesting to see how dos Santos fares in Eagle FC and if he’s able to snap his losing skid.
