Junior dos Santos signs with Eagle FC, faces Yorgan De Castro in debut

We have another exciting name to add to the Eagle FC roster, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s MMA promotion, and that’s former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.

He also has his debut opponent lined up, and that’s fellow UFC veteran Yorgan De Castro, who’s already 1-0 inside the promotion.

This event is to go down on May 20, 2022, at the FLXcast Arena in Miami, Florida.

Dos Santos initially signed with Triad Combat (boxing with MMA gloves) following his UFC departure and was expected to make his promotional debut opposing former multi-time international and intercontinental heavyweight boxing champion Kubrat Pulev in their second event.

The Bulgarian just competed for Triad Combat I on November 27, 2021, where he faced former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, dispatching of him at the end of round one.

Dos Santos also fought, and knocked out Mir in his lone UFC title defense.

That would’ve been interesting to see, as dos Santos is one of the better boxers the sport of MMA has ever seen.

Nonetheless, Triad Combat II was cancelled due to Covid-19, and dos Santos has since signed with Eagle FC.

Now, the former UFC heavyweight champion stays in his sport of mixed martial arts to face De Castro this May, who’s a dangerous striker like himself.

Dos Santos, though he’s had a remarkably illustrious career, has lost his last four-straight, being finished via strikes in all four appearances.

To his defense, two of those opponents were professional kickboxers, and another is the current UFC heavyweight champion, as well as the hardest hitting man on planet earth. Yes, it’s been proven, no one has ever recorded a punch harder than Francis Ngannou’s.

De Castro on the other hand has gone 2-0 since his UFC departure, following a three-fight losing skid that brought his record from 6-0 to 6-3.

This is a great match up to get dos Santos back on track, and it gives De Castro a shot at one of the best to ever do it.

Eagle FC is making some pretty big waves in the mixed martial arts world as of late.

Debuting in the US earlier this year with Eagle FC 44, headlined by world kickboxing champion Tyrone Spong and Bellator veteran, WTKF & Parus FC heavyweight champion Sergey Kharitonov.

That event was co-headlined by former UFC light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans as well, who picked up his first win since 2013, ending his five-fight losing skid.

They’ve also signed former UFC & Bellator veterans such as Ray Borg, Ricky Bandejas, John Howard, Cody Gibson, Anthony Njokuani, Diego Sanchez and Kevin Lee, who headline the next card, Eagle FC 46, on March 11, Impa Kasanganay, Anthony Hamilton, Darrell Horcher, who faced Khabib Nurmagomedov in his short-notice UFC debut, Ronny Markes, Nah-Shon Burrell, Irwin Rivera, former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard, Thiago Silva, and of course De Castro and dos Santos.

Lucky for us, Lombard and Silva are set to face one another at this same event in the light-heavyweight co-main event of the evening.

It states on Eagle FC’s website that their full roster is coming soon, and we’re equally as excited to get that out there once it’s released. So be looking out for that!

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
