Junior Tafa KO’s Parker Porter in 84 seconds to open up UFC Singapore main card

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us today, August 26, 2023, for UFC Singapore, going down live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.

Headlining the event is a 145 lb affair between former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway (24-7) and former two-time title challenger Chan Sung Jung (17-7).

Our co-main event of the evening came in the light-heavyweight division between no. 8 ranked former title challenger Anthony Smith (36-18) and no. 10 ranked Ryan Spann (21-8), a rematch of their 2021 encounter.

Opening up the main card this morning was a heavyweight encounter between Junior Tafa (5-1) and Parker Porter (14-9). Tafa came in off the first defeat of his career, losing his UFC debut to Mohammed Usman earlier this year in April, while Porter had gone 4-3 thus far into his promotional tenure.

Official Result: Junior Tafa def. Parker Porter via KO (punch) at 1:24 of round one

Tafa stuns Porter with a punch combination followed by a knee up the middle early on, before Porter shoots in on a single leg. He presses Tafa into the fence in attempt to secure the takedown, but is unable to as Tafa turns him around and separates.

Tafa then lands a heavy elbow followed by some more punches, dropping Porter on the spot and forcing the referee to stop the action.

Junior’s brother, Justin Tafa KO’d Porter in 65 seconds earlier this year in February, and little brother just did the same thing today in 84 seconds, securing his first octagon victory in the process.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
