Justin Tafa, UFC 284

Justin Tafa brutally KO’s Parker Porter early at UFC 284

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, February 11, 2023, for UFC 284, going down live from the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

Headlining the event was a champion versus champion clash, as the no. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (25-1) moved up to the lightweight division to challenge no. 2 pound-for-pound ranked UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev (23-1) in attempt to become a two-division champion.

Our second bout on the main card tonight came in the heavyweight division between Justin Tafa (5-3) and Parker Porter (12-7). Tafa, a former XFC heavyweight champion, had secured all five of his impressive victories via knockout, while the underdog in Porter, a former Reality Fighting heavyweight champion, was on a three-fight win streak going into his most recent bout opposing Jailton Almeida.

Both men came into tonight’s bout with five octagon appearances; Tafa going 2-3, while Porter had gone 3-2.

Official Result: Justin Tafa def. Parker Porter via KO (punch) at 1:06 of round one

Both men are looking sharp early on; Porter staying light on his feet, and Tafa looking to counter.

Porter lands a nice right hand, and not long thereafter lands a nice combination ending in a kick.

However, he runs straight into a nasty left hand-right uppercut from Tafa that KO’s him on the spot. He was out when the straight left landed, the uppercut was unnecessary but just beautifully placed.

Justin Tafa is now on a two-fight win streak, both wins coming via knockout in round one.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
