Kelvin Gastelum injured, Sean Strickland steps up for UFC Vegas 67 headliner on short-notice
This Saturday’s UFC Vegas 67 fight card has taken an unexpected turn as the originally scheduled Kelvin Gastelum is out of the event’s headlining fight against Nassourdine Imavov.
The 31-year-old Gastelum, who did not fight at all in 2022, has pulled out of the UFC’s first event of 2023 with a mouth injury.
“I’m extremely disappointed to say the least. This not how I wanted to start 2023, ” Gastelum wrote on social media.
“I worked my ass off & battled through a lot of adversary and was ready to put on a hell of a show this weekend.
I apologize to Imavov, his camp as well as

and all the fans.

In Gastelum’s stead and taking the fight on short-notice is Sean Strickland.
Strickland is coming off a split decision to Jared Cannonier at UFC Vegas 66 in December, less than a month ago. This will be back-to-back headlining events for him.
UFC Vegas 67 moves forward with 12 total bouts scheduled at the UFC APEX on Saturday.
