Kelvin Gastelum issues statement after UFC 244
Kelvin Gastelum said all week Darren Till was a stepping stone for him to get another title shot. Yet, he may have looked passed the Englishman too much as lost to fight by split-decision.
It was not a good performance from either, but especially from Gastelum who could not get Till down to the ground or get inside to hit him with hard punches. Instead, he stayed on the outside and took a ton of leg kicks and walked away losing by split-decision.
After the fight, Kelvin Gastelum took to social media to release a statement on the loss.
Sorry to everyone let down by my performance. Tonight I just couldn’t put it together! Love all of you anyway and I promise you that I will be back better. Only way to go is up! God bless you all 🙏❤️ #OnAmission4Gold #AllGlory2God pic.twitter.com/LQ1CVsa4TZ

“This is disappointing to say the least,” Gastelum said. “But I’m very positive I’m gonna come back next year and make some real changes. Changes that will hopefully impact my performances from now on because this was… yeah. Thank you all for your support and I love all you guys, I leave my heart and soul out there for you guys. Thank you.”
With the loss, Gastelum feel to 15-5 and one no-contest. He is also on a two-fight losing streak for the first time in his career. The loss no doubt pushes him down the middleweight rankings and he will need a string of wins to try and get another title shot.
Of course, before the Till loss, he lost a razor-close decision to Israel Adesanya for the interim middleweight title earlier this year. At middleweight, he is 3-3 and one no-contest. It has been an up and down ride for ‘KG’ at 185-pounds and the latest loss proves that.
