Kevin Holland disposes of Anthony Hernandez in round 1

The UFC continues its COVID-19 comeback with UFC on ESPN 8 tonight, Saturday, May 16.

Heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris headline the event at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. In the co-main event, Claudia Gadelha looks to stop Angela Hill’s three-fight win streak.

Middleweight Anthony Hernandez and Kevin Holland meet on the preliminary portion of the card. Hernandez is coming off his first UFC win, submitting Jun Yong Park at UFC on ESPN+15 in August 2019. 

Hernandez is 1-1 inside the octagon after being submitted by Markus Perez at UFC on ESPN+ 2 in February 2019.

Days after lobbying to fight Marvin Vettori at UFC on ESPN+ 29, Holland has his chance to compete. In his last outing, Holland suffered a submission loss to Brendan Allen at UFC on ESPN 6, Oct. 18, 2019. The loss snapped a two-fight unbeaten streak for “Trail Blazer.”

ROUND 1

There’s no glove touch and Holland sets up the overhand right early. Hernandez comes forward and Holland lands a leg kick. Hernandez tries to close the distance and Holland hurts him with an elbow. Holland lands a knee to the body to put Hernandez down. Holland jumps on top and the referee is forced to stop the bout.
