Kevin Holland stops Alex Oliveira after tough first round at UFC 272
UFC 272 went down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. There is a five-bout main card highlighted by a welterweight fight between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal at the top of the bill. Also notable on the main card is a welterweight fight between Kevin Holland vs. Alex Oliveira.
Holland (21-7) looks to make his return to Welterweight a successful one. Holland had a rough 2021 though as he took two losses and then had a fight ended in a no contest to end the year against Kyle Daukaus. “Trailblazer” burst onto the scene in 2020 when he gained five victories in a single and now looks to get off to a hot start in 2022.
Oliveira (22-11-1), heads into this fight on a three fight losing skid, against a tough stretch of match-ups. Most recently, in October of 2021, he took a unanimous decision loss to Niko Price. Oliveira hasn’t had his hand raised in a victory since July of 2020. “Cowboy” made his UFC debut in early 2015 – the 34-year old veteran looks to get his career back on track.

Here’s how the fight played out round by round:
ROUND 1:
Chris Tognoni is your referee in charge. Holland opens up with the kicks early, mixing them up and low. Both fighters trading low calf kicks. Momentarily Holland drops to the mat after Oliveira catches the kick but he pops right back up. Holland lands a straight right down the middle and buckles the leg, Holland rushes IN – Oliveira gets one BACK of his own. That will teach Holland, he needs to pick his shots more. At the end of the round, Holland and Oliveira scramble on the mat, Holland tries to roll and Oliveira grabs the neck but there is not enough time on the clock.
