Khamzat Chimaev def. Gilbert Burns in fight of the year contender at UFC 273

UFC 273: Volkanovski vs. The Korean Zombie takes place on April 9, 2022, at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, United States.

Alexander Volkanovski and Chan-Sung Jung ‘The Korean Zombie’ will face off in the main event, Aljamain Sterling will also defend his bantamweight title against interim champion Petr Yan.

Gilbert Burns vs. Khamzat Chimaev will also serve on the card, and also this highlighted recap in this article.

Gilbert Burns (20-4), bounced back from his title fight loss to Kamaru Usman in February last year. Usman snapped his former training partners impressive six-fight win streak with a TKO which hurt Burns more mentally, but he responded with a respectful unanimous decision win over arguably the best striker in the division, Stephen Thompson.

Khamzat Chimaev (10-0), enters the fight undefeated and has finished all four of his UFC opponents, including three first-round stoppages. Regarding as one of the best prospects we have seen inside the UFC, tonight he gets his biggest test.

Here’s how the fight played out round by round:

ROUND 1:

Your third man in the octagon is Mike Beltran. HERE WE GO! Khamzat takes the centre immediately, he shoots for a takedown straight away. Chimaev gets the takedown, he drags Burns down to the mat. Gilbert tries to roll but with no success. Chimaev welcomes Burns back to the fight after a stalemate. Gilbert walking forward and landing his shots, this is the most we’ve seen Chimaev tested already. A jab from Chimaev drops Burns badly, follow up strikes don’t land from Borz. That’s the end of the round.

ROUND 2:

Round two here we go. We have a fight on our hands; seeing a prospect like Chimaev getting tested is what we wanted to see. Burns lands a punch that seems to effect Chimaev momentarily. Burns shots for a single, but it’s evident how strong Chimaev is. Burns wobbles Chimaev, the Swedish international drops too one knee but he recovers QUICKLY. A fantastic sprawl from Burns creates a scramble, the crowd goes wild, what a fight we have on our hands. At the end of the round Burns lands a fantastic punch which HURTS Chimaev badly, Chimaev shots for a depression shot and the BELL GOES.

ROUND 3: 

All to play for in the third. Chimaev needs to bounce back in this round to win the fight. Chimaev is throwing his combinations, Burns momentarily curls up against the cage, he looks in bad way. Chimaev is clearly the fresher fighter. Burns is a savage, he’s clearly ran out of steam but he’s throwing every strike with his everything, unbelievable. All heart down the stretch, what an incredible fight that was, WOOW.
