Khamzat Chimaev explains his inspiration to fight

Khamzat Chimaev predicts first-minute KO of Gilbert Burns at UFC 273

Surging UFC welterweight contender Khamzat Chimaev predicts that he will score a first-minute KO of Gilbert Burns on Saturday’s UFC 273 card.

Chimaev is the hottest prospect on the UFC roster right now. After smashing John Phillips, Rhys McKee, Gerald Meerschaert, and Li Jingliang in his first four UFC fights, the promotion is fast-tracking him up the welterweight ladder. The No. 11 ranked welterweight in the UFC at the moment, Chimaev gets the opportunity to fight the No. 2 ranked Burns at UFC 273 on Saturday night in Jacksonville. With a win, Chimaev could be next to fight UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

According to the betting odds, Chimaev is a -500 favorite to defeat Burns despite having far less experience in the Octagon and in MMA overall. It shows you what the betting public thinks about Chimaev, who has turned heads through his first four fights in the UFC. Although Burns is technically a step up in competition, most people still expect Chimaev to win, and likely in devastating fashion. Speaking to the media ahead of UFC 273, Chimaev showed off his confidence ahead of the fight.

Although Burns is one of the best welterweights in the world, Chimaev is not only confident he can win the fight, but he’s also confident that he will finish Burns early on in the matchup. Talking to the media ahead of Saturday’s big event, Chimaev promised that he would finish Burns in the first minute of the first round.

“I’m gonna smash that guy, knock him out, one minute (or) less, I promise you. He’s (a) little boy, scared boy,” Chimaev said (h/t BJPenn.com). “I said to him yesterday, show his power, he couldn’t show that, he say I show you Saturday and he turned around.”

We will find out on Saturday night at UFC 273 if this prediction comes true.

Do you believe Khamzat Chimaev when he says he will KO Gilbert Burns in under one minute at UFC 273?
