Kirill Gorobets has powerful message for home country of Ukraine

Kirill Gorobets (11-1) will make the walk to the cage tomorrow at ONE Championship’s ONE: Lights Out event in Singapore. In just a matter of hours, the 28-year-old Ukrainian will look to win one for his people when he takes on Martin Nguyen.

While tomorrow’s fight may be in front of him, Gorobets is thinking of friends and family back home in Ukraine who are currently under attack from Russian forces.

In a video posted to ONE’s Instagram page Gorobets said:

“I want the people of Ukraine to await my victory. This fight is for you. To my people and my family, I am with you. Glory to Ukraine and glory to the heroes.

Gorobets makes his ONE Championship debut on a nine-fight win streak dating back to 2016.

He won the interim WWFC lightweight title after submitting Kyrgyzstan’s Rinat Sayakbaev with a Peruvian necktie in 2019. The following year Gorobets unified the titles after scoring a decision win over Aleksandr Gorshechnik.

Nguyen is the first-ever two-division titleholder in ONE Championship history, having won titles at featherweight and lightweight.
