Krzysztof Glowacki, former WBO cruiserweight champion, banned from all sports for four years

The UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) has banned Krzysztof Glowacki, Poland’s former WBO cruiserweight champion, from all combat sports for a period of four years.

The restriction was put in place after the now 37-year-old fighter tested positive for the use of an anabolic steroid after his loss to Richard Riakporhe in January 2023. That substance, Boldenone, is listed under section S1 of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2023 Prohibited List as an anabolic androgenic steroid.

Several months after the boxing loss, Glowacki made his professional mixed martial arts debut against Patryk Tołkaczewski on June 3, 2023 at XTB KSW 83: Colosseum 2. He won the bout via knockout in the first round after hitting Tołkaczewsk with left hook while being mounted which knocked Tołkaczewsk out.

According to ESPN, Glowacki denied taking a prohibited substance prior to the boxing bout, and “was provisionally suspended in April 2023 and his case was heard by an independent National-Anti-Doping Panel on Oct. 31.”

Glowacki held the WBO junior-heavyweight title twice; from 2015 to 2016 and again in 2019 (elevated from interim champion). As an amateur, he won a bronze medal in the super-heavyweight division at the 2008 EU Championships. He was previously ranked as the world’s fourth best active cruiserweight by The Ring magazine and third by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board and BoxRec.
