Krzysztof Jotko cruises to victory against Gerald Meerschaert

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), hosts another event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the UFC Vegas 53 main event top 10 contenders will face of as #5 Rob Font is set to square of against #8 ranked Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera. Co-main event action sees former middleweight turned heavyweight Jake Collier battle former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski.

In this highlighted play-by-play we will look at a fight between Krzysztof Jotko and Gerald Meerschaert on the main card.

Jotko (23-5), is 4-1 in his last five fights, with his lone loss over that span stemming from the highly touted and number 5 ranked middleweight, Sean Strickland. In 2018 Jotko UFC career look to be coming to an end after losing a decision to David Branch and getting knocked out by Uriah Hall and Brad Tavares, but as previously mentioned he turned it around.

Meerschaert (34-14), is riding a three fight win streak, which he finished all by submission. In 2020 Meerschaert had a year to forget after becoming a highlight reel to Khamzat Chimaev career, 2021 was a much better year for the veteran and now looks to start his 2022 campaign with a win.

Here is how the fight played out round by round:

ROUND 1:

Herb Dean is your referee in charge. Both men starting early, Jotko immediately seems the quicker fighter on the feet early. Front kick to the face from Jotko that appears to momentarily stun Meerschaert, but nothing prevails. After a failed takedown attempt from Meerschaert, Jotko lands a combination in the center. Jotko is waiting to counter Meerschaert and making reads on the back foot, but it’s very effective and he is landing at will. And that’s the end of the first round.

MyMMANews.com scores it: 10-9 to Krzysztof Jotko

ROUND 2:

Round two, Meerschaert needs to change something. Jotko is bouncing on his feet, swiftly moving in and out whilst landing his punches. Meerschaert is unsuccessful with another takedown attempt, it’s evident that Jotko has entered well prepared. Meerschaert staying consistent with his grappling and gets Jotko down to the canvas but only momentarily as Jotko pops right back up. We have another clinch position and Jotko gets a takedown of his own and finishes the round on top.

MyMMANews.com scores it: 10-9 to Krzysztof Jotko, 20-18

ROUND 3:

Third and final round, in my eyes Meerschaert needs a finish. Jotko gets a takedown and the fight is on canvas, and immediately Meerschaert is looking for a submission of his back. Meerschaert Is threatening with a Kimura but without success. Even with the grappling it seems Jotko is always a step ahead of Meerschaert. Jotko stands back to his feet and raises his hand, the sound of the horn goes.

MyMMANews.com scores it: 10-9 to Krzysztof Jotko, 30-27
