Kyler Phillips disposes of Cameron Else in second round

The second stint of “Fight Island” continues with UFC on ESPN 16 tonight, Saturday, Oct. 3.

Headlining the event is a women’s bantamweight affair between former champion Holly Holm and Irene Aldana in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The co-main event features heavyweights Yorgan De Castro and Carlos Felipe.

Capping off the preliminary card is a bantamweight bout between “The Ultimate Fighter” season 27’s Kyler Phillips and octagon newcomer Cameron Else.

After going through Dana White’s Contender Series and “The Ultimate Fighter,” Phillips made his UFC debut in February of this year. He came away with a unanimous decision win against Gabriel Silva at UFC on ESPN+27.

He is currently riding a two-fight win streak after finishing Emeka Ifekandu at LFA 59 in February 2019.

Phillips was supposed to face Danaa Batgerel, but Batgerel withdrew after facing travel issues. Else steps in on just a week’s notice. Else is coming into the fight on a six-fight win streak, finishing all of his opponents in the first round.

They touch gloves and Phillips starts on the outside. Else misses a leg kick. Both men taking their time in the first minute. Else comes forward and lets his hands go. Phillips misses with a swinging left hand. Phillips misses with a flying knee, Both men are busy. Phillips lands a right kick to the body. Else lands an overhand right. Phillips lands a right of his own. Else misses a head kick, Phillips lands a leg kick. Phillips using leg kicks often, Else’s leg showing redness. Phillips shoots and gets the takedown. Else able to get space and throws an up kick. Phillips finds his way back in. Else scrambles, but ends up on his back with Phillips on his feet, Phillips goes back to top position, transitions to the side. Else gives up his back. Phillips gets both hooks in. Else scrambles, but Phillips remains on top. Phillips lands some ground and pound. Else scrambles, but covers up. The horn sounds.

The two tap gloves again. Phillips waste little time and lands a takedown. Phillips gets both hooks in and reigns down elbows. Phillips gets the second-round stoppage,
