UFC flyweight Lauren Murphy eyes spring return
After being pulled from UFC in Phoenix, Lauren Murphy comes on to discuss the card as she viewed it from the seats. A big supporter of the show, and regular guest, Murphy gave us an update on her health and when to expect her back in the octagon.
“It’s going super fast,” exclaimed Murphy.
“I’m way ahead of schedule on all the stuff I can do on my foot. But it’s just a long recovery time. It was a pretty gnarly surgery so it’s a long process to recover from that,” she continued.
With a long recovery time, the process has been a bit of a change for the BJJ brown belt.
“I’ve been swimming a lot,” Murphy explained.
“I have some special shoes when I need to go running. I can do everything else, but for a long time I couldn’t do any grappling. [So I] worked on my boxing and my movement and my footwork a little bit,” she finished.
Murphy was in Phoenix to watch the fights, most notably her replacement fight between Andrea “KGB” Lee and Ashlee Evans-Smith. With Lee defeating Smith, would that fight change Murphy’s plan?
“I would fight either of them (KGB-Smith)… whatever UFC wants to give me,” said Murphy.
“I’m a big fan of womens’ MMA, I’m able to just watch fights from perspective. I actually don’t really like watching them from a ‘Oh I might have to fight them.’ I don’t like doing research on women in the division unless I’m fighting them,” she continued.
“I thought KGB looked awesome her combos looked clean.”
Murphy does expect to be cleared soon by her doctors to return to full contact. With all the movement in the flyweight division, Murphy’s return could give any number of potential opponents.
