Leon Edwards and Khamzat Chimaev have now been booked again for the third time as the highly anticipated welterweight bout will now be the main event of the UFC’s March 13 event.
MMA Junkie reported the news of the fight after receiving confirmation from UFC president Dana White.
The two were first scheduled to fight at the final UFC event of 2020 on Dec. 19, but the fight was scrapped when Edwards tested positive for COVID-19. The fight was then pushed back to Jan. 20, but Chimaev pulled out due to complications from when he previously had coronavirus.
Edwards (18-3) is currently riding an eight-fighting winning with his last win coming in July 2019 when he defeated former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos by unanimous decision. The last time Edwards was defeated was in 2015 when current welterweight champ Kamaru Usman got a unanimous decision win over Edwards.
Chimaev (9-0) bursted onto the scene in 2020 when he won three fights within three months. He also won his second fight in the UFC just 10 days after winning his promotional debut. His last win came on Sept. 19 when “Borz” needed only 17 seconds to knockout Gerald Meerschaert.
