Official Result: Lerone Murphy def. Dan Ige via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Ige walked Murphy down once the bout started, landing a heavy right hand and securing an early takedown following. Murphy got back to his feet and opened a cut on Ige with a nasty elbow, making it worse by busting him up with his jab. Ige then dropped Murphy with his right hand as the opening round came to a close, Murphy soon after securing a takedown of his own.
Murphy did a great job slowing Ige’s pace in the second, picking him apart on the feet and stuffing his takedown attempt. He then secured a takedown of his own, soon after achieving mount before Ige gave up his back. Murphy fell off as he was attempting to secure his second hook, though ended the second attempting a triangle choke off his back.
Murphy shot in on a takedown early on in the third and final round, ending the sequence on his back. He was eventually able to get up where he secured a takedown of his own though Ige was able to again gain top position in a scramble. Murphy got back to his feet and pressed Ige into the fence before unloading on a combination as the bout came to a close.
This was a close one, but ultimately the judges saw the undefeated Englishman doing enough to get the job done. At 33 years of age the time is now for Murphy to get a top 10 opponent next, and he just called for a fight against no. 8 ranked Josh Emmett.
