LFA 78’s Lisa Mauldin all business for co-main event against Hailey Cowan
Lisa Mauldin discusses her upcoming co-main event bout at LFA 78 this Friday against Hailey Cowan. The event takes place at Bell County Expo Center in Belton, Texas and will be the first event for the organization to air on UFC Fight Pass.
The Team Oyama product discusses how she found the sport of MMA, learning and competing in different styles of martial arts before turning pro as an MMA fighter, her first amateur fight and what it was like for her, how beneficial training at Team Oyama has been for her evolution as a martial artist, how she likes the matchup with Hailey Cowan, fighting in enemy territory in Texas — her opponent’s back yard, what her goals are in the sport and much more.
With previous events being cancelled heading into this co-main event fight after LFA was dropped from AXS TV, Mauldin didn’t think about a new TV deal for LFA. She remained focused on the task at hand as if everything had already fallen into place.
“I was super excited,” Mauldin told MyMMANews.com. “It was kind of all of a sudden for me so it made it more exciting. It is really cool, a different experience and a new opportunity for me. I wasn’t nervous at all [that the event may have been cancelled]. I just take it as it goes and it doesn’t affect me at all. I just stay focused with my fight camp and stay ready. I did, however, suffer an injury so as soon as I was ready to go, it was right back into camp.”
Cowan has been a surging name in the Texas MMA scene and is riding a four-fight winning streak, three of which were stoppages. Mauldin is well aware of the caliber of opponent she will share the cage with on Friday and only sees the result of the fight playing out in one way.
“I see it playing out with me getting a win. That’s first and foremost,” Mauldin said. “We’ll see how the fight goes, I’m not gonna say anything [exact], but I see myself winning.”
