Mackenzie Dern vs. Hannah Cifers expected for upcoming May 23 UFC card

Mackenzie Dern and Hannah Cifers is now expected to go down on May 23rd. It is not yet specified if this strawweight fight will be in Florida. Three UFC cards have been announced for Jacksonville on May 9th, 13th, and 16th.

Both 115-lbers are looking to rebound from defeats in their last outings. Dern lost a unanimous decision to Amanda Ribas. This was the first time the Jiu-Jitsu savant tasted defeat in her MMA career after collecting a couple of UFC victories prior. Cifers lost to Angela Hill via second-round TKO in January of this year. Cifers also has logged a couple of Octagon wins to her credit.

Dern Vs Cifers

Dern was originally lined up with Ariane Carnelossi as a dance partner for April 25th. That card was canceled and Carnelossi became unable to travel outside of Brazil as a result of COVID-19. With these circumstances at play Cifers stepped in. Mackenzie Dern’s return to the cage against Ribas came after a lengthy period of time off. It was not due to any kind of injury or from being burnt out, it was to give birth to her first child. Dern’s return to action came just four months after giving birth. It will be interesting to see if we see a different permutation of Mackenzie Dern emerge in this fight.

Cifers has been in there with some top 15 caliber UFC talent like Maycee Barber (#9 ranked flyweight per UFC’s ranking system). The mixed-martial artist known as “Shockwave” looks to garner a win here to jettison herself further up in the contendership hierarchy. In a world where there’s the confluence of rampant event cancellations coupled with UFC’s dogged determination to return to running shows, it will be interesting to see how the next few weeks play out.

Who wins this strawweight bout?
