Marc-Andre Barriault submits Jordan Wright early at UFC Vegas 52

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, April 23, 2022, for UFC Vegas 52, going down live from the Apex Center in Paradise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a supposed title eliminator bout contested in the women’s flyweight division between former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade (no. 1) and surging contender Amanda Lemos (no. 10)

Andrade is one of the more brutally powerful women in the entire sport, many even refer to her as the female Wanderlei Silva, while Lemos brings that same exact danger to all of her fights.

Opening up the main card tonight was a catchweight bout Jordan Wright and Marc-Andre Barriault. Both of these men are dangerous strikers that came to the UFC with a lot of hype, though Wright has gone 2-2 thus far into his promotional tenure, and Barriault has gone 3-4.

Official Result: Marc-Andre Barriault def. Jordan Wright via submission (guillotine choke) at 2:36

Barriault is quick to get in Wright’s grill, as he does with all his opponents, and begins to control the center of the octagon. He’s blocking his face well, so Wright attacks the one thing open to him, which is leg kicks.

Wright lands a number of them to the pursuing Barriault, but he’s being forced to move constantly. That’s where Barriault is dangerous, he doesn’t tire, but being pressed back by someone like himself does tire people.

Barriault is able to rush in and get close, where Wright ties him up in a clinch. Wright then lands a series of nasty knees in the clinch, before Barriault starts to land some vicious uppercuts, followed by some body shots.

Wright presses Barriault into the fence, and to our surprise, takes him down.

Barriault eats some shots on the way up before Wright shoots again, this time on a single leg. Only this time, he left his neck out and Barriault jumps on a guillotine choke.

Wright, being a relatively inexperienced grappler, couldn’t get out of the choke and was submitted considering.

This is the first submission victory in Barriault’s career, and he became the first man to submit Wright tonight at UFC Vegas 52.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
