Marissa Heckman loves Maverick MMA and that’s why she’s once again coming back to compete in the promotion at Maverick 21 on Nov. 19.
The fight will mark her fifth within the promotion, but this fight will hold a special place in her career.
When Heckman makes the walk to the cage on Nov. 19 to take on Sandra Chenng, it will be the first of her professional career.
While there is some difference from the amateur to pro ranks, Heckman isn’t worried it will affect her performance since she has always trained like pro throughout her career.
In fact, she has made the best of her amateur days to grow as a fighter and most importantly she used the time to correct mistakes.
Perhaps the biggest thing that Heckman has corrected in her career as been her approach to her weight cut.
In the past, she would try and cut weight the way male athletes would, but due to the difference in a women’s body, the weight cut technique did not work for her. After a few tough weight cuts, Heckman has now mastered the weight cut and found a technique that has worked for her.
Now with the amateur days in the rear view mirror, Heckman is excited to finally make her pro debut on what maybe the Maverick fight card ever.
A win her debut would also be the cherry on top of the cake for a great year as Heckman got married just months ago.
Prior to the fight, Heckman spoke with MyMMANews about her upcoming fight, her love for Maverick MMA and life as a wife and mom.
You can watch her full interview in the video above.
