Mark Madsen defeats Vinc Pichel, remains undefeated at UFC 273

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, April 9, 2022, for UFC 273, going down live from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Headlining the event is a featherweight championship bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Chan Sung Jung, while the co-main event is contested in the bantamweight division, a rematch between UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and interim champion Petr Yan.

Vinc Pichel opened up the main card tonight opposing Olympic silver medalist Mark Madsen.

Official Result: Mark Madsen def. Vinc Pichel via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Pichel opens up the bout with a leg kick, which is returned by Madsen.

Madsen then continues, following up with a number of calf kicks throughout the first half of the round, and it’s beginning to effect Pichel. Madsen throws a combination but misses every single punch.

Pichel then returns some of his own strikes, before he’s taken down by Madsen. He’s right back up however and the two end the first on their feet. Madsen begins to find the range with his hands toward the end of this round as well.

The striking throughout round two was much closer, though Madsen is able to secure another takedown and remain on top for a couple minutes in the middle of it.

However, it could be 1-1 going into the third, as Pichel lands a nice combination, and to our surprise, secures a takedown at the end of the second and remained on top for the finals ten seconds of the round.

Madsen is able to negate Pichel’s striking enough to secure a takedown about one minute into the third and he’s able to remain in top position for the remainder of the bout.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
