Marlon Moraes, former UFC title contender, sworn in as police officer in Davie, Florida

Congratulations are in order as former UFC bantamweight contender Marlon Moraes has been sworn in as a police officer in Davie, Florida.

Davie is a town in Broward County, Florida, United States, approximately 24 miles north of Miami. The town’s population was 110,320 at the 2020 census, making it the largest town in Florida by population. Davie is a principal town of the Miami metropolitan area.

Moraes, 36, is originally from Brazil and began his mixed martial arts career in 2007. He would capture titles in the now defunct World Series of Fighting (WSOF) before later signing to the UFC in 2017.

Moraes faced Henry Cejudo in 2019 at UFC 238 for the vacant UFC Bantamweight Championship. He lost the fight via technical knockout in round three.

He later announced his retirement from MMA in 2022. Less than six months after leaving competition, Moraes announced that he would be signing with the PFL for the 2023 Featherweight tournament. After losing three bouts with the promotion, Moraes once again retired from the sport.

His last professional MMA win came over former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo by way of split decision in 2019.
