Marvin Vettori calls for fight with former champ Chris Weidman
Marvin Vettori has been calling for a big fight and now he has his eyes on former middleweight champion Chris Weidman.
Last night at UFC Vegas 6, Chris Weidman picked up a unanimous decision over Omari Akhmedov in the co-main event. While Weidman’s return to the win column was a huge story line in the MMA universe, Vettori wasn’t impressed.
Vettori shared two tweets regarding Weidman, the first of which criticized Weidman’s performance.
“Weidman looked horrible tonight,” Vettori wrote in a tweet. “He’s a former champion let me whip his boring ass next. Guarantee you he will hide like all the other guys. Me against @chrisweidman needs to happen. @Mickmaynard2 @ufc”

Guarantee you he will hide like all the other guys.
Me against @chrisweidman needs to happen. @Mickmaynard2 @ufc
Vettori’s other tweet stated that he believes that he would make easy work of Weidman.
“I swear I’ll have weidman begging me for by the 2nd. Let’s book this! @ufc @Mickmaynard2”
I swear I’ll have weidman begging me for air by the 2nd.

Let’s book this! @ufc @Mickmaynard2
The call out seems fitting, given that Weidman wants to return to the octagon soon and so does Vettori. In Vettori’s last fight in June, he picked up a first-round submission win over Karl Roberson. That win puts him on a three-fight winning streak.
Since joining the UFC in 2016, Vettori is 5-2-1 and one of those losses came by split decision to current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. According to the official UFC rankings, Vettori is currently ranked No. 14 in the world.
