Marvin Vettori vs. Omar Ahkmedov rematch set for UFC 256 on Dec. 12
A middleweight matchup between two ranked opponents is being added to UFC 256 on Dec. 12.
Marvin Vettori is set to face Omari Akhmedov for the second time after the two fought to a majority draw at UFC 219 in December 2017. The location of the event is yet to be decided, but it is expected to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
MMA Junkie confirmed the bout with people knowledgeable of the booking.
Vettori is on a roll with three-straight victories since losing to now-UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya via split decision in 2018. He most recently finished Karl Roberson via first-round submission at UFC on ESPN 10 this past June.
The No. 14 ranked UFC middleweight also earned back-to-back decisions against Cezar Ferreira and Andrew Sanchez.
Akhmedov is looking to rebound after a unanimous decision loss to Chris Weidman at UFC Fight Night 174 on Aug. 8. Pegged at No. 13, previously finished his last six fights unbeaten. He earned five victories and received the one draw to Vettori.
His most recent victory came at UFC 245 this past December. Akhmedov earned a unanimous decision nod against Ian Heinisch, who is ranked No. 15 in the middleweight division.
