Matchmaker Monday following UFC 244 – Who should they fight next?
Controversy or not, UFC 244 is now in the history book. The card was great and fun to watch even with the way the main event concluded.
After a great event it’s time to move on. Before we move on from the BMF belt and this historic event, lets figure out what’s next on this Matchmaker Monday following UFC 244.
Jorge Masvidal, welterweight
Result: Defeated Nate Diaz via third-round TKO (doctor’s stoppage)
What’s next?: Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington winner
He’s earned the title shot fair and square. Not to mention he’s most likely going to be named the 2019 ‘Fighter of the Year.’ I’m sure there are a lot of people that want to see Masvidal and Diaz part two, but Dana White has already shot the idea down and said he agrees with the stoppage. With that being said, it’s a no brainer he’s getting the next title shot.
Nate Diaz, welterweight
Result: Lost to Jorge Masvidal via third-round TKO (doctor’s stoppage)
What’s next?: Conor McGregor
Honestly we might not see Diaz for a bit. He’s not going to fight unless he’s going to get a big pay day. That leaves him with three options. One option is a title fight, which he hasn’t earned. Another option is a rematch with Masvidal, which Dana White has already said no to. So then there is McGregor. This fight can happen any day of the year and would do massive numbers. If we’re going to see Diaz again in the near future it’s mostly likely going to be the Diaz-McGregor trilogy.
Darren Till, middleweight
Result: Defeated Kelvin Gastelum via spilt decision
What’s next?: Paulo Costa
Welcome to the middleweight division Darren Till. Was the win pretty? No. However, given his travel issues with his visa, I’m sure he’ll take it. Nonetheless, Till won the fight and now he’s in the mix for a title fight in his new weight class. Rumors are saying that new champion Israel Idesanya is now going to fight Yoel Romero since Paulo Costa needs bicep surgery. So now that Costa is out of title picture, he’ll need a dance partner when he comes back. Costa and Till in mid 2020. Let’s do it.
