Matchmaker Monday following UFC Tampa – Fights to make next
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat was shown by both fighters’ in Saturday’s UFC Tampa main event.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk (16-3) looked amazing in her first fight of 2019 en route to a dominant victory over Michelle Waterson (17-7). With the win she thinks she’s earned her 10th title fight.
While JJ was celebrating, “The Karate Hottie” was crying knowing that she lost a possible number one contender fight.
Let’s see what’s next for these women following UFC Tampa on Matchmaker Monday
Joanna Jedrzejczyk, strawweight
Result: Defeated Michelle Waterson via unanimous decision
Next: Zhang Weili
Welcome back Joanna Jedrzejczyk. We haven’t seen her look that good in a long time. Luckily for Jedrzejczyk, she dodged a bullet by not having a broken foot after the fight. Now that she looks like vintage JJ again, Weili has to be next.
First off, both of them want to fight each. Weili has been asking for a fight with Jedrzejczyk for months and Jedrzejczyk wants whoever has the belt, which just so happens to be Weili.
Jedrzejczyk is the greatest strawweight ever. As a result of her greatness, let her call her shot. Not to mention the other top contender is Tatiana Suarez, and she is still dealing with a neck injury. With that being said, I think it’s safe to say that Weili vs. Jedrzejczyk is just about a done deal for early 2020.
Michelle Waterson, strawweight
Result: Defeated by Joanna Jedrzejczyk via unanimous decision
Next: Alexa Grasso
Waterson had her three-fight win streak snapped on Saturday. Even with a loss she could still make another run towards a title fight. Unfortunately for her she’ll have to pull off another win streak.
Given the fact that Waterson has already fought just about everyone ranked below her at the moment, let’s give her a new opponent.
Grasso is a young talent. She’s looking for a fight like this that could help boost her name and get her a big fight if she can get a win. As for Waterson, a win over someone like Grasso would give her a step in the right direction. At age 33, she’s going to have to get on another win streak fast or else her window for becoming the first mom champ will be closing.
