Matchmaker Monday following UFC Vegas 47
UFC Vegas 47 was the first of eight straight weeks of UFC action.
In the main event, Sean Strickland was able to jab and pick apart Jack Hermansson on way to a split decision victory. One judge scored the fight in favor of Hermansson and that threw many people off as the fight was a clear cut victory for Strickland.
Now that the event is over, let’s break down the next moves for the men who fought in the main event of UFC Vegas 47.
Sean Strickland
Next: loser of Derek Brunson and Jared Cannonier
Strickland is on a roll and has found a home for himself at middleweight.
After rattling off victory after victory, Strickland has earned himself a top five opponent. Only problem is the top is a bit long jammed.
Robert Whittaker is fighting this weekend for the title, Paulo Costa maybe headed towards light heavyweight, and Strickland said in his post-fight press conference that Marvin Vettori is his friend and that he won’t fight him.
The winner of Brunson and Cannonier should get a title fight, so by process of elimination, the loser of Brunson and Cannonier makes the most sense.
Jack Hermansson
Next: Uriah Hall
Hermansson has had a tough go as of late. The UFC Vegas 47 loss now makes him 2-3 in his last five fights.
After being on the losing end of a lopsided defeat, it’s clear that Hermansson will not get anyone ranked in front of him.
Now here’s the one thing about Hermansson that does help him. He fights the toughest names and of course that will result in some losses here and there. Reminds me of another guy in the division who is ranked below Hermansson. Uriah Hall.
Hermansson and Hall are in similar boats and they both have names that stick out to the fans. Good future matchup here.
