Matt Mitrione apologizes for no-contest, offers to fight at Bellator 216

Matt Mitrione had planned for a quick night in the Bellator cage on Friday night, but there was no way the heavyweight contender could’ve prepared for the finality of Bellator 215.

Mitrione took on Sergei Kharitonov in the main event of Friday’s card — the first night of a twin bill at Mohegan Sun — and landed a ferocious kick that landed to the groin of his opponent, leaving Kharitonov unable to continue. The fight was ruled a no contest which left the crowd in the arena with a bad taste in their mouths.

Following the event, Matt Mitrione spoke to the media, which MyMMANews.com was in attendance for, about how the night ended. Mitrione apologized to the fans, said he’d be willing to step in on Saturday night at Bellator 216 should the opportunity would arise, discussed whether the accidental low blow would make him change his approach moving forward and much more. Watch the entire post-fight interview above.
