Matt Serra believes Jorge Masvidal ‘deserves’ title shot
Many thought Colby Covington would be next for Kamaru Usman. Yet, things may have changed, especially after “Gamebred’s” five-second knockout win over Ben Askren.
Of course, things still need to shake out like Covington’s fight. Where if “Chaos” wins it will complicate who deserves the next title shot, as even Tyron Woodley and Leon Edwards are in the conversation now. But, according to former UFC welterweight champion, Matt Serra, he believes Masvidal deserves the shot after his KO win.
“I’ll tell ya, he definitely deserves to fight for that [UFC welterweight title],” Serra said on UFC unfiltered (as transcribed by BJPENN.com). “I mean how can you deny that guy? Look what he’s done and look who he’s put away too. Talk about a guy that rises to the occasion. He goes over to London, he beats Darren Till. He beats ‘Cowboy’ in I believe it was ‘Cowboy’s’ hometown.”
Serra also believes Masvidal is making mind games with his opponents, similar to what Conor McGregor does.
“Masvidal, I’ll tell ya in a way he gets in people’s heads like Conor McGregor does. Before he fought ‘Cowboy,’ he was talking to him backstage before they walked out. It was awesome because he backs the sh*t up. He’s a real dude man. I like seeing real dudes in there.”
The expectation is that Kamaru Usman will be able to return for the Madison Square Garden pay-per-view in November. Who he will fight there is to be seen as there are a bevy of options. But, if Matt Serra had his way it would be Jorge Masvidal getting that title shot as he doesn’t know how the UFC denies him after all he has done as of late. But, he has only won two in a row which could delay his shot, but Serra doesn’t care.
Do you agree with Matt Serra that Jorge Masvidal deserves a UFC title shot?
