Max Holloway Medically Cleared to Compete
Originally scheduled to face featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski for the third time, Max Holloway pulled out of the fight in early January due to an undisclosed injury.
Just a month later, Holloway has now been medically cleared to compete.
Holloway, who is coming off of an edge-of-your-seat brawl with Yair Rodriguez and before that, putting on a boxing clinic against Calvin Kattar is eager to get the Featherweight strap back around his waist.
Though Volkanovski is scheduled to face “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung at UFC 273 in April, Max Holloway now eyes being an alternate in the event that Volkanovski or Chung have to pull out of the fight.
Chan Sung Jung, who was able to slide into the fight following Holloway’s injury announcement is coming off of a win over Dan “50K” Ige and will have a second chance to obtain UFC gold.
With the reliability of both Volkanovski and Chung however, it is unlikely that either will be forced to the sidelines. Holloways request to serve as a backup also has not been approved quite yet. Without a doubt, however, there is no better person than Max “Blessed” Holloway to save the day if anything does happen to the UFC 273 main event.
For now, it’s safe to say that the MMA community is happy for Holloway’s quick recovery and that he feels healthy enough to return. Whether or not he can slip into the title fight, we all look forward to his return to the octagon.
